After 14 years as a couple, raising their two children 12 year old Lily-Rose and 9 year old Jack, actor Johnny Depp and his french girlfriend Vanessa Paradis have decided to go their separate ways. I thought it was so romantic for him to buy a private island for them to share together. These things remind us that nothing lasts forever. Separation. Was it clash of ego? Was it addiction difficulties? Confusion of priorities? What a crying shame and such a common thing to happen, especially for celebrities.

High Tea Society

I love decadence and glamour so there's no suprise that I love the traditional old school way of taking tea, scones and other assorted pastry marvels, pretty cupcakes and fine finger sandwiches often involved in the art of afternoon tea.

Women of all ages (and the Bombshell men who naturally admires the finer things in life) are decking themselves out in their finery and enjoying a taste of the prettier things in life.

At The Ritz in London, men are turned away from afternoon tea if they are not wearing a suitable tie and jacket. It offers well made pots of tea, finely cut sandwiches, freshly baked scones with fruit-filled jam and fresh clotted cream and pretty, delicate pastries. It's an event. The room is beautiful, as it should be. Chandeliers drop pretty light onto well dressed tables, featuring fine china and linen.

But be warned, not all high teas are like The Ritz. Just yesterday, I met Laura, a Bombshell girlfriend of mine for a traditional high tea at the top of the British Museum and although we has a great catch-up, we were subjected to an extremely unsatisfactory version of a traditional High Tea. Even more dissappointing is the realisation that the Biritsh are famous for putting on the best high tea's in the world. The real deal is a study in decadence, refined and delightful. It goes to show that the pretenders don't do so well on the high side of things, cutting corners and failing to finish presentation standards in the manner that we expect.

Another thing to love about high tea is it gives us the opportunity to wear our most beautiful dresses and special occasion handbags. As to where to go for high tea in your own town, most good hotels will pride themselves on offering a good High Tea. I love Fortnum and Masons. It's worth an investigation into where to find the best traditional high tea in your city.

They aren't great moulters, they don't yap and they don't require very much excercise. Another big plus is they don't have genetic medical faults or defects.

I've been meaning to do a feature on the fabulous Faye Dunaway for such a long time, I was starting to feel guilty about not doing it. So here it is. A feature, albeit rather small, on Miss Faye.

Her real name is Dorothy. Dorothy Faye Dunaway. She started off as a beauty queen in Florida USA and progressed into being an actress (as so many Bombshells do) in New York but with a reputation of being temperamental. That shouldn't instantly qualify her for being a Diva. Please don't shut her into the Diva category as she's still full of Bombshell worthiness.

Faye was considered for the role of Domino Derval in 1965 James Bond 007 film Thunderball and also for Octopussy in 1983. Rightly so, as you can see she's a very beautiful woman and would make a memorable Bond Girl.

Faye has been married to both a rock singer and a high profile British photographer and has one adopted son. Her fabulous career consists of being a beauty queen, an actress, a director, a producer and a writer.

A feature which marks her as a Bombshell and cancels out the negative for her temperamental work nature is that she drives a humble 2007 Toyota Corolla and prefers to rent apartments as opposed to owining various sprawling, swanky estates.

Get Marilyn's Hair

Welcome to my second how-to lesson in Bombshell hairstyling. It's very simple to create with my step by step instructions.

Today, we are learning how to style our lovely locks in the classic Marilyn Monroe style. This hairstyle is more ideal for Bombshells who have hair which is approximately shoulder length, give or take an inch or two. If you have longer hair, perhaps you'd rather recreate Veronika Lake's hairstyle, just look for the tips and techniques in my archives.

Start by washing and towel drying your hair and apply a little styling balm or gel to the entire lengths.

Select medium sized velcro hair rollers which ideally will allow you to wrap your locks one and a half to two times around the roller.

Wrap one inch segments of hair around the roller. A good tip to remember is the more hair you put into each roller, the looser the curl. Zig-zagging or assymetrical roller placement will result in a more natural look.

At the front of your head, above your forehead, roll the hair forward towards your face. All other rollers should be rolled towards the nape of your neck.

I like to dry my hair using a bonnet dryer as I am impatient, but if you have time on your side, you can just let it dry naturally.

When your hair is totally dry, use your fingers splayed out to gently soften the curls by running them through your hair. You may like to use a cylindrical vent brush to finish the style.

Never forget to use your trustee hairspray (always a bombshells secret weapon) to set your style for durability and hold.

Spooky Witches Brew for Two

Welcome Halloween festivities with style. Here's a tasty little trick of a cocktail that you can conjure up for your festivities.

Ingredients

1 cup freshly squeeed orange juice
1/2 cup orange soda

2 shots black vodka
1 shot cointreau
2 licorice coils
2 peppermint sticks

Combine the orange juice, soda and cointreau. Pour the orange potion into 2 martini glasses. Holding a teaspoon measure upside down over each glass, delicately pour the shot of black vodka onto the top of the orange potion so that is floats, creating a layered effect.

The peppermint stick acts as the swizzle stick and garnish with the licorice coil.

And voila!!

Rue was a breast cancer survivor and gave lectures on ageing gracefully. Rue was also an animal rights activist and worked with People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. As well as playing the role of Vivian in TV hit Maude, Rue is best known for her memorable role as the quickwitted sexpot bombshell Blanche Devereaux in the series The Golden Girls.

Married 7 times and after marriage number 2 ended, Rue (birth name Eddi-Rue McClanahan) moved to New York to persue her career as an actress.

One of Rue's quotes are, "People always ask me if I'm like Blanche. And I say, "Well, Blanche was an oversexed, self-involved, man-crazy, vain Southern belle from Atlanta -- and I'm not from Atlanta!" "

Rue passed away on 3 June 2010 by stroke. She will always be a bombshell to us.

I must apologise profusely for being slightly absent within the last couple of months. Unfortunately, I broke one of my pins in true bombshell style. Picture ambulance, paramedics and crowds of people. I had to use my wrap to cover myself for modesty! I have been though a couple of rather painful operations and a few weeks in hospital and am working with my dear physiotherapist to get back into glamorous form.

This is the official beverage of Puerto Rico since 1978. Today I'm writing about the old style version of the classic pina colada cocktail.

3oz light rum

3tbsp coconut cream

3tbsp crushed pineapple

2 cups crushed ice

Pop all of the above ingredients into a blender and blend on high speed for a short time. Strain the mixture into a pretty, chilled glass and garnish with pineapple, maraschino cherry, mini sword, swizzle sticks or anything else you like.

As the picture says, you'll need 1.5oz whiskey, 3/4oz sweet vermouth, ice and cherries. Mix in a cocktail shaker, strain and garnish with a cherry. So simple and so sweet!

I love a good cup of tea and altough I'm an earl grey drinker, sometimes I like to sit down with a hot cup of rose tea. Rose tea is essentially tiny little dried red French rose buds which you put into a tea pot or cup (1 or 2 per cup, depending on your preference of strength) and then fill with hot water.

I only drink tea out of fine bone china, otherwise it's not at all a good experience. It's good to note that Bombshells don't drink out of clumbsy, heavy cups with thick edges. If you're thinking of purchasing your own tea set, have a look at Wedgwood or Royal Doulton and others of similar quality. As for rose tea, have a look for it at souks, markets or ask for it in stores like Selfridges in Oxford Street, London.

The name Hong Kong means 'Beautiful Smelling Port'. It doesn't always smell beautiful but it is very interesting and I'm always sure to take a little camera with me as I never know when I'll fall upon a Kodak moment.

Travelling as much as I do, I need to look after myself by spending time alone, resting in my hotel bed with a lot of iced-water. I have a great appreciation for luxurious hotel linens and fluffy feather-pillows.

Travel and hairspray dries my hair. When I'm in Singapore, I go and see my hairdresser and dear friend Junior Ho at the Salon Spa at Orchard City. He always makes my hair smell and feel amazing.

Maintaining a steady diet is a disaster when moving around so often. I choose to eat a lot of seasonal fresh fruit wherever I am. I like to try different exotic fruits but I always look for watermelon. It's delicious, health-giving properties are also very re-hydrating.

It's due time I wrote another 'how to'. I thought I'd start you off with a relatively easy style to create, so today our lesson is how to recreate a classic Bombshell hairstyle made ever-so popular by the very beautiful and sexy Veronika Lake.

THE VERONICA LAKE

STEP 1
Shampoo with a prodct that gives your hair a soft sheen, but doesn’t weigh it down

STEP 2
Apply a product to your hair that will protect it from heat and help it hold on to the curl for longer. I like mousse that won't go 'crunchy'.

STEP 3
Using a hairdryer, almost fully dry your hair.

STEP 4
With a section comb, create a deep side parting. This will give you the signature Veronica Lake “over-one-eye curl”.

STEP 5
Using a wide-barrelled heated tong, curl small sections of hair, starting at the top of the head and working through to the mid layers and underneath. Don’t curl the hair under, we aren't going for a Doris Day look yet!
Put the tong on top of the strands of hair close to the root and wrap the hair diagonally, rather than winding it, so you get a wave rather than a curl. Remove the tong, keeping the wound-up hair together and pin close to the head using a small sectioning clip.

STEP 6
When the whole head is curled and clipped, and the hair is cool, removem. Using your fingertips, tease the curls into looser waves. To keep your hair in place, spray with a good hairspray.

STEP 7
Accessorise with a classic red lipstick – the ultimate partner for your new Bombshell hairstyle.

Fringe Festival

The full fringe circa 1950's, also referred to as a "Bettie Page" in certain circles, is something to consider when adapting a bombshell image of your own. It's a look best suited for kittens with larger foreheads and it really helps to show off your eyes. I feel I should mention that this look is not best suited for natural curls as it will need a LOT of straightening and product, not that we don't love our product anyway. Just something to consider, when considering. And do consider wisely as bombshells - unlike divas - don't change their image as often as they change their shoes.

I have developed a great appreciation for the colour (or 'shade' to be more technically correct) of white. It's pure, cool in summer, striking in winter, identified with innocence, eye-catching and it simply goes with everything. There are many varying hues of white from stark blue-white (suitable for a bombshell with a fairly tanned complexion) to creams, champagnes and pink-whites, so investigate and find the colour that best suits your complexion.

Next time you visit your trusty seamstress, ask her to make it exclusively white and enter that room looking simply startling!

I've been flying around the world so many times and feel so guilty as I just haven't had time to sit and write about the passing one of the greatest Bombshells of the silver screen.

World War II pin-up beauty Jane Russell passed away today of respiratory failure. She was at her house in Santa Maria, California.

Jane was best known as a voluptuous and controversial bombshell of 1940s and 1950s movies. She was the 'full-figured girl' in television bra ads and was just simply magnificent in comedies such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Born Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell on June 21, 1921, in Bemidji, Minnesota, she moved to Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley with her family. As she grew up, Jane wanted to design clothes and houses but she was working as a receptionist when she was conveniently spotted by a movie agent who submitted her photos to Howard Hughes.

Although Howard was famous for dating other amazingly glamorous actresses, Jane and Howard's relationship was completely professional. So, Howard Hughes was the genius of a man who put her in her in the movies. He designed the 'cadillac' bra for her 38D bust abd then he organised a photoshoot which had Jane lying on a bed of straw, looking every inch the bombshell in her tight-fitting peasant blouse which explosed one lovely shoulder.

Lo and behold, Jane was voted 'favourite actress' before the voters had even seen her act! But unlike other bombshells, there was absolutely no sound of scandal in her private life. Then, in 1953 Jane was paired with Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Such a good movie and such a fine lady. We will miss her dearly.

I am a firm believer that there's a perfect shade of red lipstick for every female face on this planet. Your task is to visit the nearest beauty counter to find yours. It will make you feel like a new Bombshell in a mere moment. Every Bombshell in history knew this simple, head-turning trick. Go on darlings, indulge.

* robe up

We'd rather go cold and naked than wear a tatty old terrycloth robe! Don't hold back: silk, full sleeves, maribou trim or a beautiful Japanese kimono. Point being - indulge yourself. And indulge the mailman too, everytime he catches you in it.

* buy something you want but don't need

I am talking about something quite extravagant here. Take yourself shopping. Go into your favourite department store and purchase something for yourself. Something you would like to own, but something you certainly don't need. Something you'd be likely to covet when flicking through your favourite glossy magazine. Like another luxurious cashmere sweater or a throw rug.

* add a little French

A little French can go a long way. If you do know a little, use a little. If you don't know any --then by all means get some tapes (or even better: a tutor). Sometimes the most smoldering-sounding words are spoken in French, mes belles. Isn't the boudoir more enticing than the bedroom?

* order champagne

I know it's popular for modern young women to drink beer and prove they are one of the boys. Why?

A wine glass has the potential for drama, but you and I have both seen women of a certain age with the ubiquitous glasses of vino and you're much too young and much more fun for that.

If there's anything that has bombshell written all over it, it's the fizzy stuff. So order yourself champagne. It bubbles just like you do, sweetheart. Go on! It may be worth it just to see the grizzled bartender scurrying around looking for a bottle just for sweet lil' you.

* wear some flora

Just one beautiful fresh flower will make a dramatic and sophisticated impact. You could wear it in your hair or pinned to your chest and you can even wear it instead of jewellery. Advanced glamour-pusses can tuck one into their decolletage or even make an entrance carrying a long-stemmed rose as a hand accessory.

* wear your gloves

Bombshells know the finishing touch to an extremely fabulous outfit is a lovely pair of gloves. Is there anything else that's so ladylike and sexy at the same time? Amazing gloves are quite simple to find in vintage stores. Purchase a pair elbow-length opera gloves and become resplendent in even the simplest of frocks.

Here's the fine-print - mittens and bulky knitted gloves with little details just won't do. No Bombshell in history, or any woman of great style for that matter, wore mittens. Ugh!

* scent yourself

A deeply filled bathtub scented with a sprinkle your signature perfume is a completely sensorial experience of relaxation, contemplation and renewal. It's a relatively inexpensive luxury for you to enjoy and the best part is, the scent will linger on your skin all afternoon and your oh-so-glamorous self will will utterly sensational.

The film to follow the launch of the new scent has footage of Mr Timberlake and model of the moment Noot Sear running around Paris and up the Eiffel Tower at night.

Justin Timberlake's first fragrance for Givenchy was Play for Him. Now he has launched his first perfume for the ladies and it's called Play for Her (you'd have guessed that name, wouldn't you?). Very smart marketing - just in time for Christmas shopping!

"I've grown out of sweet scents." notes Mr Timberlake, "My taste in fragrance has changed over the years. I'm not a big fan of those cotton-candy perfumes on women now. That's not my thing. I like less sweet, warmer fragrances. You don't need to smell like ice cream."

On the other hand, he says "I'm not really into floral perfumes on women, they're not sexy. But I guess anything can work as long as it's not an assault on your nostrils."

Calabrese Salad

Ingredients:

2 vine ripened assorted organic tomatoes
1 small bunch fresh organic basil
2 balls of bocconcini
1 pinch sea salt flakes
1 dash of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil.

Method:
Roughly chop the tomatoes, basil and bocconcini. Mix them up on a plate or bowl and then sprinkle with salt and olive oil.

A Perfect World For Ms Larue

In my perfect world, on a good day the Rockettes would be dancing behind me whilst I take a leisurely stroll down the street. Entire orchestras would play overtures to match my feelings. Random people would enthusiastically dance in unison around me and sing. Even the poor people on the streets would juggle the fresh fruits they are pedaling and the homeless would skip along the sidewalks.

Of course, this is my PERFECT world. On any given day, these scenarios quite regularly do play through my mind, though I will vary the themes, the costumes and the songs. But alas, life is not a stage show or the climax scene of an 80's dance movie. Nobody will break into a dance when I enter a room, or cartwheel before me when I walk down the aisle in a cinema. Nobody will run after me with a bunch of long-stemmed roses and there will be no spotlight on me during my heartfelt, Tony Award winning solo.

Reality, which I'd like to choose to deny is I am not good at studying and it's not fun. This is not a part of my show. It is not glamorous and it's dull.

That's all I have to say about that... now, where are those violins?

The majority of my training schedule is late in the days. I usually have a driver collect me. Today he'll be here at 3:45pm and I'll meet him in the lobby. Until then I'm at leisure. I slept in today, wandered down to the relaxing hotel pool area and bathed (that's my exercise done!), lounged and read sections of the latest Tatler magazine. I love it how they have a double outdoor shower, it's fantastic!

Anne of New Jersey

Her name is Anne Jacqueline Hathaway and we are the same height and also like me, she is the daughter of a stage actress. People tend to call her Annie. The first time I heard someone talk about Anne Hathaway, I just assumed they were talking about William Shakespeare's wife. As you can tell, I was very confused indeed. Yes, she shares the same name as Mrs Shakespeare, but this Anne isn't british, she a Yankie born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in New Jersey.

Anne is an award-winning soprano and an award-winning actress. Like all good bombshells, she loves animals and has a very happy 6 year old chocolate labrador named Esmerelda. Another Bombshell bonus about Annie is she spent a week in July 2006 in Nicaragua helping vaccinate kids there against Hepatitis A and it was an experience she regards as "..an eye opener". We should ALL go and spend a week in Nicaragua (we should also all learn now to spell Nicaragua).

The following is a list of her favourite actresses: (fellow-Melbournian) Cate Blanchett, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Bryce Dallas-Howard, Ryan Gosling, Michelle Pfeiffer, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver.

She hasn't had breast impants, her bust is only a 36B. I love that she hasn't been sucked into the conformity of post-millenium uber-plastic-implanted-cyber-babe phenomenon and says, "I look my best after an entire hair and makeup team has spent hours perfecting me. When do I feel my best? When I haven't looked in a mirror for days, and I'm doing things that make me happy."
Saying things like that will endear her to women around the world. It makes me wonder if someone told her to play down the stardom factor of if she is, in fact, a normal girl.

Another quote I found charming is, "Kindness is really important to me in finding my own prince - so are patience and a sense of humor. Without those qualities he's no Prince Charming!"

Fainting Couch

One item of furniture most crucial to every Bombshell's boudoir is a Fainting Couch or a Chaise Longue. These are uphosltered chairs which are long enough to support the legs.
A duchesse brisee is similar, but looks like a sideways-facing chair together with a long footstool. A chaise longue with a backrest at both ends is known as a recamier. Any of these will do handsomely, just as long as you have one for yourself.

I love the whole sublime idea of a fainting couch. They were very popular with women in the 19th century. This was because women in Victorian-era societies almost universally wore corsets which put substantial strain on the wearer's midsection and restricted their blood flow. When a woman would ascend stairs in a house or other structure, she would often feel faint – and a well-appointed home or building would have a fainting couch at the top of every set of stairs for her use.

Some houses would take this to the level of having separate fainting rooms where these couches would be the featured furniture.

My auntie used to have a long, velvet chaise longue and I found great use of it as I practised my 100 ways of dieing sequences, conveniently ending up on the couch in some comfortable fashion. "Asp to the breast" was particularly popular, in my recollection.

Chaise Longue's are perfect to lounge on whilst memorising your scprits, conducting interviews, wallowing in the blues, afternoon snoozes and just cuddling with your cute companion.

In any case, you MUST own at least one of these couches of your own.

Bird Of Paradis

Vanessa Paradis is one very lucky girl.
Her long-term Bombshell boyfriend, actor and musician Johnny Depp bought her an island in the Bahamas so they can be alone with just their two children Jack and Lily-Rose. Tres cosy. She's a singer, actress, model... like most Bombshells. She wears hats and looks fabulous in them like all Bombshells do. She's not a conventionalist and she smokes (again, like most bombshells - though I don't promote smoking).
She was born just outside of Paris and has one younger sister who is also an actress, of mainly french horror films.
Vanessa has been modelling since she was a child and has a long-term afilliation with the fashion house Chanel for which she began working for in the 1980's campaign for the perfume Coco (a perfume I favor). She was dressed somewhat like a bird.
Vanessa is an unconventional beauty as she has petite and has a sizeable gap between her two front teeth. She's more bohemian than standard Bombshells.

Her family divide their time between their house in the Hollywood Hills, their island in the Bahamas, their farm in the south of France, their Parisian apartment and their house in a little British village.

That's all I have to say about that today.

Fever and Irony

It just so happens that whilst languishing in the bathtub or just on the verge of sleep, Bombshells have their most noteworthy ideas. Like last night, whilst I was feeling low (as you know from my previous post), simultaneously running a high fever. I thought of an entire plot-line for a book. Or a script. Or a TV special. It's just not fair to have these creative habits, we all know we need our 9 hours of beauty sleep! But do you think I remember it all?

Something else that isn't fair is ferociously training for an audition and entirely losing your voice just in the nick of time.

Is it also ironic that both my sister and my little red kabbalah bracelets broke? Or was it just shabby craftsmanship? I'd prefer to think the latter. . .

Please forgive me for not posting anything lately, I've been completely overwhelmed in life's little surprises. These are a few of the reasons it has been a while since my last entry...

My sister's cancer has returned, my neighbour was robbed, my grandmother died, I'm obscenely septic with the flu and my voice is gone once again, the theatre was set on fire by arsonists and my little bread-and-butter job has been made obsolete.
The show must go on!
